Historically, Konya Perde kilims were used as curtains or room dividers to provide privacy as well as decoration in homes. They served as functional but also as decorative elements which often featured detailed designs that showed artististry and creativity.

The method, known as a flatweave (Düz Dokuma) involves beating cotton till it turns into something like felted material resulting in softness. Cicim alongside a flatweave technique provides a strong carpet with decorative details. This combination results in a smooth and flat base with raised and textured patterns that bring depth to the design and make them attractive for display purposes.

A wool on cotton rug has wool that is tied around a cotton base which combines the durability and softness of wool with the flexibility and strength of a cotton foundation.
