Pirot, a city in southeast Serbia, is known for its rich culture with medieval architecture and its traditional woven kilims. Considered national icons of Serbia, Pirot kilims reflect a broader Balkan rug-making heritage which includes similar weaving styles that are also found in Turkey, blending cultural elements from both regions. Pirot kilims and Turkish kilims share a deep historical connection as both traditions have influenced each other over the centuries.

The method, known as a flatweave (Düz Dokuma) involves beating cotton till it turns into something like felted material resulting in softness.

A wool on cotton rug has wool that is tied around a cotton base which combines the durability and softness of wool with the flexibility and strength of a cotton foundation.
